Breckenridge Transportation to Denver Airport

If you're planning a ski trip to Breckenridge, You should spend a night in Denver in order to get acclimated. Denver is less than 2 hours away from Breckenridge but a little more than half the altitude at around 5,000ft about a mile Its hard to imagine that the world class ski resort of Breckenridge is less than 2 hours away yet so close to this large population. Before you truck off to your Breckenridge condo you may enjoy staying in Denver for a day or two. Denver is home to four major sports teams, so if you follow a basketball, hockey, football or baseball team that is traveling to Denver for a game you can travel along and experience rooting for the away team. Another great attraction in Denver is the Denver Museum of Nature and Science where there are great displays on North American Indians, Dinosaurs, and even ancient Egyptian and Chinese exhibits. You're already on a great vacation and you haven't even left for Breckenridge.

Be careful on the drive up to Breckenridge. You're driving in snow, now some of you may have experience at this, but a lot of people don't, and it's not like driving in the rain. Avoid high speeds, especially when near other cars. To avoid skidding, brake gently, and if your wheels lock up, ease off the brake. Keep your lights on, but don't use hazards, this can distract other drivers. If you should start to skid take your foot off the accelerator and gently apply the brakes. Hitting the brakes too hard won't slow the vehicle down. If you get stuck don't try pushing on the gas, it will only dig you in deeper. Your best bet will be to shovel out some of the snow and apply a more firm surface around the tire to allow for better traction. You can use sand, kitty litter, or even salt.

Don't ski too hard the first day or two! So you make it to Breckenridge and its time to ski or whatever you have planned, but you want to be careful. Breckenridge is 9,600 feet above sea level and being that high up can cause altitude sickness with symptoms like loss of appetite, nausea, dizziness and fatigue. Altitude sickness is caused because you move to an area that is high above sea level and your body has not had time to adjust. Higher altitude means lower air pressure and less oxygen for you to breathe. Your body can get use to less oxygen in the air, but not quickly, it takes a few days to get acclimated to the air, especially when you are doing any strenuous activities. To prevent this there are medications you can take like Diam ox which can be found in local drug stores. Drinking plenty of water also can help because you're replacing fluids your body loses trying to breathe in the thin air.

Drink a lots of water and Eat small meals frequently. If you have a condo or are renting, cooking at altitude in Breckenridge can be different from back home. Tips for high altitude cooking in Breckenridge can be found in several specialty cookbooks. Some easy tips to follow are to use more water or other cooking such as butter or oil, and pump up the heat, maybe 20-30 degrees

Try to spend the knight over there....very smart.
